On 1st March, 2012, the State Copyright Office issued the statistical table on the copyright protection law enforcement in China of 2010. The last time we saw the table was in 2009 of the statistical table on the 2008 copyright protection law enforcement.
As shows in the table, the law enforcement on the copyright protection has been strengthened a lot, with a vast increase in the amount of administrative punishment, cases transferred to the police, the penalty amount, etc. And the detailed information is as follows:
(1) Administrative Punishment: increase from 9032 of 2008 to 10590 of 2010 with a growth rate of 17.2%;
(2) Case Transferred to the Police: increase from 238 of 2008 to 538 of 2010 with a growth rate of 126%;
(3) Inspected Unit: increase from 782670 of 2008 to 963842 of 2010 with a growth rate of 23.1;
(4) Banned Illegal Operation Unit: increase from 36601 of 2008 to 61995 of 2010 with a growth rate of 69.4%;
(5) Shut Down Dens of Knockoff: increase from 694 of 2008 to 727 of 2010 with a growth rate of 4.8%;
(6) Penalty Amount: increase from 14188386 of 2008 to 22143117 of 2010 with a growth rate of 56%;
(7) Confiscated Knockoff: decrease from 45648426 of 2008 to 35097739 of 2010 with a decrease rate of 23.1.
It’s not difficult to conclude from the information that there has seen a strengthening on the striking on the knockoff through administrative and criminal ways, especially the criminal punishment which increased 126% in short 2 years. Under such combating strength, the inspection and order for shut down of knockoff dens has also been growing, and on the other hand the knockoff products amount declined obviously.
